  • Candy, Aykroyd deliver laughs, nostalgia in ‘Great Outdoors’ Posted 6/25/2010 at 10:55 p.m. 0 comments

“The Great Outdoors” plays to John Candy and Dan Aykroyd’s strengths. The shticky, slapsticky comedy they do so well works great and is amplified by the fact that they’re working together. Two of my favorite scenes involve Chet (Candy) deciding to accept the challenge of eating a 96-ounce steak at a local restaurant and Chet reacting to hearing that Roman (Aykroyd) decided to make a goat-cheese pizza.

  • Worst TV shows ever Posted 4/11/2010 at 5:11 p.m. 0 comments

Shows like “Seinfeld” and “Jeopardy” will be able to stand the test of time and still be just as moving and applicable 20 years down the road. But what about the shows that weren’t moving or applicable even when they first premiered? Shows that were so bad that television executives were sent to live on islands in obscurity somewhere, people wrote angry letters in the trillions and those watching were left with the simple query: “why?”

  • A Positive Rage by The Hold Steady Posted 4/13/2009 at 3:47 p.m. 0 comments

A Positive Rage documents The Hold Steady on their tour supporting the release of their third album, Boys and Girls in America. The DVD half is sort of a patchwork documentary, which splits up clips from live performances with footage of band and fan interviews. The CD half features the band’s full performance from the Metro in Chicago on Halloween 2007.

Allow me to get off of the Pop Culture Pedestal for a second and retell one of the most moving and inspiring stories I've ever heard, from my drama professor Sid Homan. I hope that, upon reading it, you feel as ready to take on the world as I do.

  • One Night Stand=Next Day Boyfriend? Posted 3/12/2008 at 2:41 p.m. 0 comments

When good dates go a little too well, you may find yourself taking the walk of shame in the morning. You may have found the man of your dreams, but your night in the sack may have him thinking otherwise. Read Bella's letter back to one girl hoping for a new man out of a first night hookup...

Flowers? They die too fast. Chocolate? Better, but there’s only so many Harshey kisses you can enjoy without making yourself sick. Champagne? Now THAT is something both you and your sweetie (or just you if you are single and still feel like celebrating) can really enjoy together. Here's a guide to score a great bottle of sparkling wine without going broke...

  • Paris: A Grand Tour of the City of Lights Posted 11/16/2007 at 3:01 p.m. 0 comments

There is so much to see in Paris, so many historical landmarks, so many important museums, so many unforgettable churches, one should spend at least a week exploring the city and its surroundings. Unfortunately I only had three days to see everything I wanted to see and to show it to my friend who had never been to Paris before: a very short time that forced us to pick only a few attractions and leave the other ones for our next trip to the City of Lights.

  • Call of Duty 3's got killer graphics, lackluster story Posted 1/17/2007 at 5:16 p.m. 0 comments

As many of you already know, Big Perm is a lover, not a fighter. I would rather make sweet, sweet, love to a woman with a hint of Al Green playing in the background, rather than throw down with a no neck muscle head at the local bar. If push comes to shove, tree hugging hippies, and lefty pinko fascists better watch there step, because a world of hurt is coming their way.

  • Courtney Cox throws one into the 'Dirt' Posted 1/11/2007 at 4:57 p.m. 0 comments

You haven't been able turn on a television in the past two months without seeing one of the incessant promos for former "Friend" Courtney Cox's new FX series "Dirt," which purports to follow the adventures of a tabloid editor and her motley crew into the bowels of gossip and scandal in Hollywood.

  • The Day I hit an old lady. Posted 12/12/2006 at 9:35 a.m. 0 comments

It’s amazing the things we did in our youth. Some of the best stories come from the early days of our lives when our decision making abilities weren’t quite as sharp. For some of us, we are still working on that particular skill set. Cheers.

With healing herbs like Ephedra being classified as "illegal drugs," and Hippocrates' advice to "let food be thy medicine" twisted into "take your medicine with food," is there a future for natural healing in this country?
