That's right. The grand dame of science fiction series is back on these shores, fresh from across the pond. So strap into your Tardis and come along for the ride, "Doctor Who" is back for a new round of adventures on SciFi Network.

Recently honored at the longest-running (but not longest-running continuous) sci-fi series in existence, "Doctor Who" was revitalized in 2005 by British TV writer Russell T. Davies, who's their version of Aaron Sorkin or J.J. Abrams. It was a huge hit and a major departure from the Saturday morning kiddie-cartoon plots and cardboard sets that had characterized previous incarnations.

We're now on our tenth actual incarnation of the Doctor himself (he's a Time Lord, they regenerate, deal with it) - this one played by David Tennant - who's best known as Sirius Black of "Harry Potter" fame. There's also the British version of Britney Spears (Billie Piper), named Rose Tyler, who's along for the ride as the Doctor's sidekick, sexpot, mischief-maker and a nice piece of eye candy.

The basic set-up is simple. The Doctor and Rose bump along in their time machine, called the TARDIS, and get into all sorts of adventures. Aliens. Werewolves. Daleks (the Doctor's traditional enemies). Queen Victoria. Evil cat nurses. The Face of Boe. Aliens intent on building a nuclear reactor in Wales. More aliens. Werewolves trying to kill Queen Victoria. The far future. The distant past.

If you like good sci-fi, great dialogue and some truly wonderful TV, then tune in. The only drawback are the special effects, which do reflect a TV budget. But that's hardly a quibble.
