  • A Positive Rage by The Hold Steady Posted 4/13/2009 at 3:47 p.m. 0 comments

A Positive Rage documents The Hold Steady on their tour supporting the release of their third album, Boys and Girls in America. The DVD half is sort of a patchwork documentary, which splits up clips from live performances with footage of band and fan interviews. The CD half features the band’s full performance from the Metro in Chicago on Halloween 2007.

  • Now We Can See by The Thermals Posted 4/6/2009 at 6:17 p.m. 0 comments

The Thermals are sort of like musical fly fishermen. Their songs come off so likable and innocent that the hooks have already sunk in by the time listeners discover the deep lyrical meaning. And by then it’s too late to stop singing along.

  • Crack the Skye by Mastodon Posted 3/30/2009 at 3:34 p.m. 1 comment

They wrote a heavy metal epic about Tsarist Russia. Maybe that’s why I like Mastodon so much.

  • Keep it Hid by Dan Auerbach Posted 3/20/2009 at 11:38 p.m. 0 comments

I’m sure I cannot be the only person who finds it humorous that a member of a two person band would decide to record a solo album.

  • Scrambles by Bomb the Music Industry! Posted 2/25/2009 at 4:53 p.m. 0 comments

Jeff Rosenstock is twenty-five. Jeff Rosenstock still lives with his parents, still plays video games and still writes songs about inside jokes.

  • Animals in the Dark by William Elliot Whitmore Posted 2/16/2009 at 3:40 p.m. 0 comments

William Elliot Whitmore is an elderly black man who honed his musical chops while performing in blues bars and gospel choirs. Or at least he sure sounds like one.

  • It's Great to be Alive by Fake Problems Posted 2/9/2009 at 8:42 p.m. 0 comments

You should buy It’s Great to be Alive for a couple reasons. For starters, the album rocks from start to finish. And, as if musical talent wasn’t enough, the dudes in Fake Problems are also really nice people.

  • Ye Olde Festival Update Posted 2/9/2009 at 6:57 p.m. 0 comments

Here’s an update on what’s going on with some upcoming music festivals. Some big announcements were made last week relating to Langerado, Harvest of Hope Fest and Bonnaroo.

  • Fake Problems Release Party Posted 1/26/2009 at 4:26 p.m. 0 comments

Fake Problems: cool band name, good people.

  • Harvest of Hope Preview Posted 1/22/2009 at 3:19 p.m. 0 comments
