A graduate of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, he joined the Daily News in summer 2008 as a crime reporter in the Bonita Springs bureau.</p> <p>His coverage includes the 2009 Damas family slayings, where he reported from both Naples and Haiti; the three-week trial and conviction in St. Petersburg of Fred Cooper for the murders of Steven and Michelle Andrews; and the conviction and ongoing appeal of former Fort Myers real estate agent Samir Cabrera on federal fraud and money laundering charges.</p> <p>Earlier this year, Beardsley reported again from Haiti for the anniversary of the 2010 earthquake that devastated the country. The trip followed his article on local earthquake survivors in Collier County and their struggles to find work and legal status in the U.S.</p> <p>Beardsley is originally from Commerce, Georgia.
