Deputies stop truck, find stolen go-fast boat, trailer

Two Tampa men were arrested by Lee deputies after the men were spotted in a truck towing a "go-fast" boat on a trailer with an inoperable light.

Eugenio Miguel Alvaraz-Rivero, 54, and Noel Leon Perez, 47, both of the 1700 block of West Jean Street, were each charged with larceny of more than $100,000 and possession of burglary tools.

According to Lee County Sheriff's Office reports:

At 2:30 a.m. Friday, Lee County Highway Interdiction Unit detectives stopped a 1993 Ford F250 near Mile Marker 116. Perez was driving; Alvaraz-Rivero is the owner. The trailer lights were freshly cut and spliced into the truck's wiring near the hitch, the freshly cut harness was in a spare tire, bolt and wire cutters were on the rear seat and black gloves were inside the passenger door pocket. Several different tow balls and a freshly cut chain with two locks still locked also were found.

Perez said the trailer and boat belonged to him.

One of the detective's called the boat's registered owner, James Cope Jr., who said it had been parked at his business in Pinellas Park. At 3:21 a.m., Cope confirmed the business had been burglarized and his 2006 33-foot Palmetto boat and trailer, with a total value of $250,000 was missing. He also said someone had dragged a van out of the way.

He drove to Lee County and was given the boat and trailer.

A Sheriff's clerk and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent helped with translating for the detectives.
