Christmas is only three days away. I am so excited about Christmas because I am on my way to Annapolis, Md., where my family celebrates with gusto. I hope your traditions are enriched with renewed enthusiasm and an awareness of the real meaning of Christmas.
Of course, Citrus Park is glowing with wider smiles, lights to rival the big city displays and beautiful music fills the air with great joy.
Santa’s helpers have jammed the Toys for Tots boxes with stocking stuffers and the big red sleigh on Citrus Blossom, South bulges with non-perishable foodstuffs.
Generosity is spelled with a capital G in our little retirement community. Here’s an example: Rosemary White is among those who have “busy hands,” which knit and crochet warm items which are donated to local charitable organizations. What a nice way to say “we care.”
Friends are looking forward to sharing the Christmas dinner, at the clubhouse, on Christmas Day for which there are still tickets.
“Moments to Remember” is the theme of our New Year’s Eve gala at the clubhouse on December 31, where dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. Entertainment, provided by Wendy Renee and Company, begins at 9 o’clock. Get your tickets at the Activities Office and have a grand time welcoming in the new year.
The Mobile Homeowners association hosted an afternoon devoted to exploring the Certified Emergency Response Team (CERT) and how that service is made available to our community. Nine team members led by Larry Thompson, our team captain, are prepared to respond to calls for help and they encourage other neighbors to take advantage of the training sessions on January 26 and 27 at the Bonita Springs Fire Department on Bonita Grande.
Many find the Ace Home Health Care program on Thursday mornings at 11 a.m. at the recreation hall to be interesting and helpful. Door prizes and snacks attract attendees.
The calendar is maxed out with activities which are as diverse as they are enjoyable.
Three choral music groups are looking for new members and are revving up for their shows. Music and dancing include, square and round dancing, choreographed ballroom and round dance classes, and several levels of line dancing.
Card and table games, darts, bowling, shuffleboard, tennis, bocce and pentanque are among those activities which help build our community spirit and keep us alert and strong.
Italian Day is always a lot of fun and tickets for the January 16 event are available. Dee Thomas would love to hear from you.
Citrus Park ladies are invited to my little snowbird nest for a Friendship Bible Coffee beginning Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 10:45 a.m. Give me a jingle if you plan to join us.
Half of the fun of holidays is the preparation for them. I hope you are doing just that and opening your heart and home to new neighbors as well as your old friends.
Merry Christmas, Citrus Park.
