Spring Creek: Join the Jerva family's Christmas Eve party on Friday

— The fun continues as we enter into the heart of the Christmas Season. We have family and friends coming in daily hoping for warmer weather than they left in other parts of the country. Surprisingly, we are hoping for the same.

I hope everyone will join us for the Jerva Family Christmas Eve Party on Friday night. They have put together a great party for the past several years, often joined by both of their daughters and granddaughter, Brooklyn.

This year will probably be the last that Stephanie Jerva will be able to participate because she is completing five years of college and will be working next year.

She puts a lot of time and effort into our Christmas celebrations and this year was rewarded for all of her efforts by being named Grand Marshal of our annual golf cart parade on Sunday and she has a long way to go to reach 55 when she can become a resident.

The parade was a great success even though we had fewer carts entered this year.

The first go-round at 4 p.m. returned to the clubhouse about five for hot dogs grilled by Joe Bohrer and Cliff Haimbaugh and served up by Sandi Haimbaugh, Sandi Spinello and Norma Wilson. Millie and Phil Pearson shopped and set up for this event.

Christmas Day Dinner begins with cocktails at 4 p.m. and dinner at 5 p.m. in the clubhouse and it is not too late to sign up. The more the merrier. If you know of any of our residents in SCV who are unable to join us, please let me know so we can include them with dinner at home.

New Year’s Eve we will ring in 2011 with music by the Bodes, Bill and Judy. It is a BYOB and BYOH (Bring your own hor d’oeuvres) evening. There will be more information later this week, so check the poster in the clubhouse.

Last week the SCVACI Board met last week and discussed several pertinent subjects and accepted the list of candidates for our 2011 board. You will receive information in your December letter from IPM. Be sure to note the changes in the calendar and other things in the park.

We also met with Jackie Jerva our Social Committee Chairman regarding the calendar for next year and a request for people to step up to chair individual parties already on the schedule.

Jackie will have to leave after Christmas to return to Canada for surgery on her “other” leg. Yes, other, because she pushed to have surgery on her left leg before coming down so she could take care of all of her obligations here. We all hope that her upcoming surgery will put her back on two legs in quick order and she will be able to get back to us.

Ron Sullivan and Karen Lampinen announced a bus trip to the Hollywood Seminole Casino on January 10. You call either to reserve a seat.

January 10 is also the meeting for those interested in computer classes. Dave Edwards will head up the one hour classes for novices and beginners. The first class will be held on Monday, January 17. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board.

Judy Bode invited anyone who wants to help the Beautification Committee to join her on Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. at the clubhouse. With the cold weather we have been experiencing, our plants need a lot of TLC. Your help will be appreciated by all.

I apologize to all who participated and won at Bingo and Bridge last week because in the hub-bub of the season, I misplaced my lists. They are probably in someone’s Christmas card.

Marilyn McKay e-mailed me the following information.

“The December shuffleboard tournament was held in spite of the cold temperatures but under sunny skies on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 with 10 teams participating. First place team was No. 8, Sue Murray and Rodger Bartley.

Second place team was No. 9, Millie Pearson and Ralph Wright.

Thanks to Barb Floyd we were able to keep warm with hot coffee. Our delicious lunch of pulled pork sandwiches with cole slaw was prepared by Ruby D’Agostino.

For dessert we enjoyed Annie Cassidy’s famous ‘better than sex’ cake.

We invite new participants to join us at the shuffleboard courts any day at 1 p.m.”

Thank you to all of you who read this column and offer comments and compliments they are all appreciated.

Many thanks to all who serve on our boards, committees, chair our many parties and get-togethers, and learning sessions, Bingo, Bocce, Tennis, Shuffleboard and all the other high paying jobs we have available in Spring Creek Village.

A very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of my SCV friends. May you have a joyous and blessed season.
