— Classic cars filled the street, and the aroma of barbecue filled the air for the Downtown Fort Myers Block Party held at the Hideaway Sports Bar. The event benefited the Scottish Rite Foundation and the Grotto Humanitarian Foundation.

Proceeds were raised through food sales and the registration to win an Alaskan cruise. The Grotto Humanitarian foundation provides dental care for children with special needs.

“These are kids that frequently require anesthesiologists and a surgeon center just to get a check up – we cover that,” said Ted Connally, a member of both organizations. “It’s about them.”

Carlos Navedo, event coordinator, said that it would become an annual event. “It is a great way to get people’s family to come out,” said Navedo. “The River District does a great job of bringing people downtown.”
