GOLDEN GATE — While the actual event is still six months away, the American Cancer Society held its kickoff party for the 2012 Relay For Life of Golden Gate Thursday evening at the Golden Gate Community Center, to help get teams organized and started on the fundraising process.
More than 80 volunteers showed up, hearing from organizers Les Williams and Jamie Maclarty, and honoring cancer survivors and victims.
American Cancer Society community representative Allison Freeman said that between 800 and 900 folks participated last year. Come April 27, 2012 - the date for this year's walk - the group expects more than 1,500 participants to turn out for the overnight walk.
The 2012 Relay for Life Golden Gate begins at 5 p.m. April 27 at the Golden Gate Community Center. For more information, go online to http://www.relayforlife.org/goldengatefl.
