This is the right place to be if you like music. These three standard series feature a variety of artists and genres, and their season tickets are on sale now, so you can start making plans now.
Other seasons worth noting
Classic Chamber Concerts is plowing a wide field next year with rare performance of the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 1 for Trumpet and Strings.
The Naples Philharmonic Orchestra brings music from two pop/rock giants — Billy Joel and Simon and Garfunkel — to next season's pops series
There are more series coming: Next week the Philharmonic’s mainstage concerts will be published, along with its chamber series and the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra Masterworks. Beginning in the fall, most local music organizations — concert bands, avocational orchestras and choral groups — will begin publishing their series. So there’s no reason to spend a quiet season here.
KUNZEL SERIES ADDS CHORALES
Its mandate is the same — local talent — but its variety has broadened, and the venue has changed, for the Erich Kunzel Concert Series of Bayshore Cultural and Performing Arts Center.Because of construction at the Lely campus of Edison Community College, the organization will move its series to the Windstar Room of the Naples Botanical Garden. This year the group will add two new choral groups to its lineup, the Seacrest Country Day School Chorale and the Philharmonic Youth Chorale, along with familiar faces such as Flute Cocktail and its dance evening with Tir Na Nog and the Naples Ballet.
If you go
The series, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, Naples Botanical Garden and Jay and Toshiko Tompkins, will be:
■ Dec. 5 — Seacrest Country Day School Chorale: Under the direction of Jodie DeSalvo, the chorale has performed around Naples and as far away as Italy.
■ Jan. 2, 2013 — Anton’s Soiree Chamber Music: Elegant chamber music and sophisticated favorites are the staples of an ensemble headed by Anton Sikuta, former concertmaster for the Johann Strauss Orchestra, Wiesbaden, and the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra.
■ Feb. 6, 2013 — Flute Cocktail & Friends: Flute virtuosos, who attract friends from handbell choirs to keyboardists, will bring their music and some surprises.
■ March 6, 2013 — Opera Naples student apprentice young artists and professional resident artists will sing from a repertoire that includes professional opera experience and or choral work; but there also could be some Broadway and other genres for a change of pace.
■ April 3, 2013 — Naples Ballet and Tir Na Nog Academy of Irish Dance will bring both the best young classical talent and the fast-stepping Celtic dance teams to the stage.
■ May 1, 2013 — The Philharmonic Youth Chorale, under the direction of James Cochran, will sing its broad repertoire, and Naples Music Club scholarship winners from its tough competition also will perform.
All concerts this year will start at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month. Season tickets cost $75, which includes a discount from the $15 price ($10 students) for individual tickets. For season tickets, buy online at www.bayshorecapa.org or call 239-775-2800.
