The Naples Philharmonic Orchestra seems to have had major success with pop/rock tributes, and music from two giants — Billy Joel and Simon and Garfunkel — will headline the next season's pops series.Of special note: Fans of "Movin' Out," the Twyla Tharp-Billy Joel collaboration may be interested to see Michael Cavanaugh, vocalist for the Broadway production of it, singing the Piano Man's hits. Simon and Garfunkel fans, on the other hand, may be tempted to sing along to some of the catchiest of the former pop duo's hits: "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)."
But that's not necessary. Guest conductor Michael Krajewski is bringing S&G tributemeisters A.J. Swearingen and Jonathan Beedle to do the honors with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra. Count on infectious numbers such as "Me and Julio" and perhaps even a stop as far back as 1966, when Paul Simon was part of Cyrkle, with the hit "Red Rubber Ball."
The 2012-13 Pops Series will introduce new pricing options, including reduced subscription rates. Over the coming weeks, the Phil will roll out a variety of additional purchase options for new subscribers and single-ticket buyers for the Pops Series.
