■ Naples Players will hold auditions for "Barefoot in the Park," a Neil Simon comedy, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. No appointment is necessary.

Cast will include two men, one age 28-35 and one age 50-65; two women, one age 20-35 and one age 45-65. Two male walk-ons will also be needed. Rehearsals start Nov. 19. The show will be directed by Christopher Goutman and will be performed Jan. 9 through Feb. 23.

■ The Naples Orchestra and Chorus will hold auditions for talented instrumentalists and singers 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Golden Gate High School. Maestro Robert Herrema is seeking brass, woodwind, string and percussion players and singers.

Silverspot opera Sunday

He's ruthless, he's historic. And he can sing. That's the warlord of Guiseppe Verdi's opera "Attila," being broadcast for a one-time showing Sunday at Silverspot.

The theater, which has offered a collection of great opera, dance and drama works, opens its season this week with "Attila" beamed here from the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. Both Silverspot and three area Regal cinemas are offering a season of classics; the full season for both will appear in Neapolian next week. Following is the October schedule for opera alone at Silverspot.

■ "Die Lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow)," by Franz Lehár, at Semperoper Dresden, Germany. Conductor: Manfed Honeck Saxon State, Dresden; stars Petra-Maria Schnitzer, Bo Skovhus, Lydia Teuscher, Gunther Emmerich, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16.

■ "Carmen" by Georges Bizet, at Staatsoper, Berlin. Conductor: Daniel Barenboim. Starring Marina Domashenko and Rolando Villazon, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Box office opens Oct. 17

The onsite box office for TheatreZone at the G&L Theatre, will be reopen Wednesday, Oct. 17, for hours from 10 a.m. to noon.

Tickets for the upcoming season are on sale; group and season ticket seats are also available for pickup. The theater is at 12075 Livingston Road, on the campus of the Community School of Naples.

Inaugural blues fest

Winner of four Blues Music Awards and a Grammy Award for "Best Blues Album" the Tedeschi Trucks Band will headline the inaugural Sunshine Blues Festival in Florida, playing three dates in the state, beginning in Fort Myers on Jan. 18.

Featuring two stages of live bands, the festival will make its debut at Centennial Park in Fort Myers, Friday, January 18, 2013, with music starting at 12:30 p.m.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band or TTB as their fans call them, won a Grammy for best blues album in February for their album "Revelator." In the July t Blues Music Awards (formerly the WC Handy Awards) where they won album of the year, band of the year, Gibson guitar award (Derek Trucks) and contemporary blues female artist (Susan Tedeschi).

Their second album, "Everybody's Talkin'," is a double live disc recorded on the band's fall tour last year.Tedeschi Trucks Band is an 11-member ensemble headed by six-time Grammy nominee Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, who is currently No. 16 on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
