FYI: Local plant lovers will have database, and Willie Nelson reschedules concert

Native Plant banquet

The topic — "The Internet-based Synthesis of the Vascular Flora of North America" — may be unusual, but the gist is good news for plant lovers: There's now a database of plants from all over North America.

John Kartesz, an internationally known plant taxonomist and one of its founders, will talk about it at the annual banquet of the Naples Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society on Friday, Feb. 22.

The event begins with a wine and cheese reception at 5:30 p.m. at Naples Botanical Garden. A silent auction with a selection of special native plants, landscape services and other items will be offered.

What: Fourth annual banquet of the Florida Native Plant Society

Where: Kapnick Auditorium, Naples Botanical Garden, 4860 Bayshore Drive, Naples

When: 5:30 p.m. social, 7 p.m. dinner followed by the talk

Nelson here, Johnson not

The Willie Nelson-Jamey Johnson concert at Germain Arena originally scheduled for Jan. 31 has been rescheduled, without Johnson, as a Willie Nelson & Family concert. It is set for 7:30 p.m. April 30 at Germain Arena.

Original tickets are still good, but those who want a refund should contact their purchase agent, either the arena or Ticketmaster, for refunds.

Deadline for FYI is 10 a.m. Thursday. Email to or mail to Sheila Mesulam, Naples Daily News, 1100 Immokalee Road, Naples, FL 34110. All briefs are printed on a space-available basis.
