    On Saturday the last day of the 2011 calendar year, and into Sunday the first day of a new one the Coconut Point Shopping Mall went and came with an artistic splash. With artists from around the country and the area, was presented the New Year’s Eve Weekend Art Festival.

    McCabe’s Irish Pub & Grill went all out this holiday season by sponsoring “Festive on Fifth” at Sugden Plaza on Fifth Avenue. From December 28 through December 31, musical entertainment, dancing and an elaborate array of food and beverage topped off with thousands of lights will light up the sky from 7 pm - midnight.

    • 'Fiona Resting,' by David Wensel of Geneva, Ill., was judged the best of 'Camera USA,' the Naples Art Association open competition. He won  $5,000, airfare and a  hotel stay in Naples. Wensel told the art association he is not a professional photographer.  In fact ,  he just happened to see his dog on the bed and decided to take the photo.   Wensel will be at the opening reception on Friday.
    • 'Naples Pier Delight,' by Detlef Schattner, is among the photos chosen for Camera USA, a national juried show organized by the Naples Art Association. It is at the von Liebig Center, 585 Park St. , Naples, FL, through Aug. 27.
    • Jennifer Clements' unusual vantage point at an oft-photographed setting, the mural in the Brazilian garden of the Naples Botanical Garden won her a spot in 'Camera USA' upcoming at the von Liebig Center.
    • 'As Time Goes By,' a nostalgic portrait by Ulrich Elben, is in the 'Camera USA' exhibition at the von Liebig Center.

    "Camera USA," an open photogrphay competition organized by the Naples Art Association at the von Liebig Center, 585 Park St., in Naples, drew participants from 24 states. It opens Saturday. May 14, 2011, but the day before, juror Henry Benson speaks about his choices and his own experiences as a prize-winning photographer at 4 p.m. Benson was photographer for the Beatles' first American tour and has photographed world politics on nearly every continent.
