You can pretty much thank your lucky stars whenever you spy a restaurant with a parking lot full of pick-up trucks.

That usually means something to anyone looking for a good place to eat. It tells you the place is very popular with folks who appreciate good cooking. You can assume the prices will be decent. And, you can pretty well guess everybody working there will try to be just as nice as they know how.

At Nana's Diner in Golden Gate, you almost always have to wait just a few minutes for a table, but it's well worth the wait.

Don't miss the farm-fresh breakfasts, served until 2 p.m., especially the made-from-scratch pancakes and biscuits with sausage gravy. Other scrumptious breakfast items include the famous three-egg breakfast with eggs prepared whatever way you like and a choice of country home fries, grits or potato cakes served with either toast, English muffin, pancakes or buttermilk biscuit and a half order of biscuits and sausage gravy. Of course, you can add any of 10 different meats to it for a full and hearty fare.

Nana's is a very casual place where you'll likely be able to get first-hand info about the weather, fishing conditions, who's doing what in the Swamp Buggy races and some good bets on this weekend's sports contests. Good ol' boys will tell you Nana's food is always good and there's always plenty of it.
