Biography
From crime scenes to the courtroom, I cover breaking crime news, investigate trends, and keep tabs on law enforcement for the Naples Daily News, my hometown paper.
My start in journalism was unconventional. With a fresh diploma in Culture and Politics from Georgetown University, I headed to the Middle East in 2005 as a reporter and editor at the English-language Jordan Times. I then took a sharp turn toward slower-paced magazine industry, leading a regional art, design, and fashion monthly based in Amman.
My first, year-long stint at the Naples Daily News was in 2007 as a business reporter. After graduate work in Human Rights at Columbia University, my wanderlust took me to Lima, Peru, where I completed certificate work in Political Journalism and Cultural Analysis under some of the country's top investigative journalists. In Peru, I also had my first TV experience, reporting for HLN's "Nancy Grace" on Joran Van der Sloot's 2010 murder arrest. The story elevated my interest in crime reporting. In 2011, I returned to the Naples Daily News to cover the police beat and criminal courts.
In addition to always having a valid passport on hand, I speak fluent Spanish and French, and enough Arabic to order food, get around in a taxi, and curse -- three important tools for a reporter.
When I'm not listening to the drone of the police scanner, I have my running shoes on, trying unsuccessfully to exhaust my Rhodesian Ridgeback mix puppy, Pippa.
